Creating a safe environment. Our flue gas cleaning system

Compared to international standards, Germany already has stringent emission limits with its 17th Ordinance of the Federal Emissions Control Act (17. BImSchV). REMONDIS SAVA has, however, set itself an ambitious goal: its plant's emissions should be reduced to half the legally prescribed limits.

Responsible for our environment

REMONDIS SAVA ensures that the hazardous substances in the waste are destroyed safely by supplying the plant with a homogenous blend of different wastes. These mixtures are created during extensive pre-treatment processes such as the inert crushing of solids or the mixing of liquids using convection. The combustion temperature is a minimum 1,100°C at the exit point of the secondary combustion chamber to ensure that the hazardous substances contained in the waste are transformed into environmentally harmless material.

For pure water and clean air

In order to seal off the area and protect the groundwater, a special layer was built into the ground under the parts of the plant that work with materials that may pollute water. The plant itself operates without wastewater. A sophisticated air extraction system prevents odour emissions from the bunker. All of the areas used to empty tankers and containers also have their own extraction systems. This air is fed into the incinerator via a central pipe.

Permanent monitoring systems

In order to ensure that all legal limits are adhered to, the emission measuring station continuously monitors emissions of particulates, CO, NOx, SOx, HCI, Hg, Gaseous ammonia and total carbon and sends this data to the monitoring authorities via the Internet. Moreover, we publish data about our emissions every month.
